Carbon finance is a powerful tool in the fight against climate change. However, nature-based carbon projects are complex. Although they can potentially provide a funding stream for conservation projects, they require a high level of understanding before implementation.
This CPD UK certified course is a key step to gaining this understanding. We begin with basic concepts and take participants through case studies and examples from African carbon projects. We discuss barriers and opportunities and ultimately provide the training to equip you to participate in the exciting developments in carbon finance for conservation.

Who is it for?
This CPD UK certified course is designed for professionals in the emerging sustainability finance sector who wish to enhance their understanding of the complex and dynamic sources of finance for nature based carbon projects that support sustainable development. Whether you’re a sustainability professional, conservationist, policymaker, environmental consultant, business looking to purchase carbon credits or NGO worker, you’ll have the foundational knowledge of the carbon markets's finance mechanisms and the skills to contribute to the funding proposals and management of nature based carbon credit projects.
Course Structure
6 modules over 15 weeks with a combination of live sessions with lectures and peer engagement learning, digital learning resources and assessments.
First cohort starts on Wednesday 28th January 2026, 6pm CAT. There will be an introductory 1 hour pre course session on Wednesday 21st January 6pm, CAT.
Participation requirements
- At least one year work experience in an environmental field
- Basic knowledge of the carbon cycle, greenhouse gas emissions and climate change
- Basic knowledge of project development and management​
- Basic understanding of environmental policies and regulations.​
- Access to good internet connection and a computer​Â

We accept enrollments until we reach a capacity of 20 participants per 15 week session. We will then create a waiting list. Many of the courses fill up several weeks in advance, so we advise that you enroll as early as possible to secure your seat.Â
